How to post a job as a homeowner

Posting a job is free and only takes a few minutes. Here's how it works, and what stays private.

1. Describe the work

From My projects, click Post a new job. You'll choose a trade, give it a title, and describe the work in as much detail as you can - the more specific, the better the responses you'll get.

2. Add your postcode area, budget, and photos

Your postcode area (not your full address) is used to match you with builders who cover your location. You can also add a rough budget range, a timeframe, and up to 5 photos to help builders understand the job.

Your project - description, photos, and everything else - is never made public. It's only ever visible to you and to the builders it gets matched to.

3. Wait for interest

Matched builders can see your project and choose to express interest, usually with a short message and an indicative price. You'll see these responses on your project page as they come in.

How we vet builders: every builder on BuilderFinder is manually reviewed by a real person on our team before their profile goes live - we check their submitted ID (including confirming the photo matches who they say they are), any insurance and trade certifications they've provided, and we keep an eye on their reviews over time. It's not an automated rubber stamp; someone actually looks at every application, to help make sure the people using the platform are legitimate.

4. Accept a builder

Review the builders who've shown interest - you can check out their public profile, reviews, and past work first. When you're ready, click Accept on the one you want to go with.

Accepting is what unlocks direct contact: you'll see their phone number, and a messaging thread opens up so you can arrange details directly.

5. Mark it complete and leave a review

Once the work is done, mark your project as complete and leave a rating and review for the builder. Reviews are checked before they go live, and help other homeowners make a good choice.
