How to register as a builder and start getting leads
29 Jul 2026
Getting set up as a builder on BuilderFinder takes a few steps beyond the basic account signup.
1. Register as a builder
Choose Builder when you sign up, and add your company or trading name.
2. Pick your trades and service area
Select every trade you cover, and tell us the town/city you're based in plus your postcode area (e.g. "LS" for Leeds). This is exactly what determines which projects you get matched to, so it's worth getting right - you can always add more service areas later from your profile.
3. Build your public profile - and really fill it in
From Your public profile, add a bio and, most importantly, your completed projects. This is the single biggest factor in whether a homeowner picks you over another builder, so it's worth doing properly rather than leaving it half-finished:
- Add every project you're proud of - not just one or two.
- Upload as many photos as you can for each one, up to 10 per project. Before-and-after shots work especially well.
- Write a real, descriptive write-up for each project: what the job involved, how long it took, any tricky bits you solved. A one-line caption doesn't tell a homeowner anything useful - a proper description does.
A profile with five detailed, well-photographed projects will consistently outperform one with a single vague entry and no pictures.
4. Get verified
Upload proof of ID and, if you have them, your public liability insurance and trade certifications. A real person on our team manually reviews these - including checking your ID photo - before approving your Verified badge.
5. Respond to leads
Matched projects show up in My leads. Click into one to see the full brief - description, photos, budget - and click I'm interested with a short message to let the homeowner know you're keen. If they accept you, their phone number and a messaging thread open up.
Membership is currently free, with no limit on how many leads you can respond to.
6. Ask happy customers for a review
Reviews are one of the strongest signals a homeowner uses to choose between builders - a profile with genuine, detailed reviews stands out immediately. After you finish a job, it's worth simply asking the homeowner to mark the project complete and leave you a review while the work is fresh in their mind. You can also reply publicly to any review you receive, which shows you're engaged and professional.
